Inquiry means asking questions. Scientists use the process of inquiry to collect data and to try and answer those questions. The process of inquiry includes these steps:
- Asking a scientific question – these are questions that have measurable or observable answers.
- Forming a hypothesis – an educated guess based on previous observations.
- Conducting a fair experiment to collect data related to the hypothesis.
- Evaluating the results – scientific inquiry doesn’t prove a hypothesis “right” or “wrong”, it only compares the data to see if there is enough evidence to support the hypothesis.
- Drawing conclusions – sometimes the results are unclear, and that’s okay. All questions lead to more questions!
As part of their science grade, Timothy Lutheran students in grades 3-8 will be participating in the school Science Fair May 1, 2020!
This website will help with the planning and structuring of your science fair project.
